The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:
The Kataeb Party warns against establishing the concept of presidential vacuum which is portrayed as amenable to regulation, saying that Lebanon is held hostage by foreign countries awaiting the conclusion of a new settlement while institutions are being neglected and Constitution is violated.
The Kataeb Political Bureau reiterates that no regularity in constitutional life without a president as he is the head of the ruling authority and he is the responsible for calling to consultations, passing laws and decrees and regularizing the work of institutions.
It also calls for full commitment to the Lebanese Constitution whose articles 73, 74 and 75 related to the election of a president stipulate: “ The Chamber meeting to elect the President of the Republic shall be considered an electoral body and not a legislative assembly. It must proceed immediately, without discussion of any other act, to elect the Head of the State. “
The Kataeb Party also called for keeping presidential elections sessions open until the election of a new president.
Accordingly, the Kataeb Party confirms that its lawmakers would not partake in any parliamentary act outside the Constitution, saying that they refrained from participating in the last presidential elections session and they would not participate in the plenary session to accuse former Ministers of Information as this session is unconstitutional amid presidential vacuum.
