Kataeb Party Commends Electoral Process, Vows Exemplary Local Governance

The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel. Following discussions on the conduct and results of the municipal elections, the bureau issued the following statement:

1. The Political Bureau welcomes the successful organization of municipal and mukhtar (local heads) elections after years of delay, describing it as a positive and long-overdue development. The vote gave residents of Mount Lebanon Governorate the opportunity to express their will and elect their local representatives; a process that clearly reflected a strong yearning for progress and a high level of trust in the candidates backed by the Kataeb Party in many areas. These races witnessed genuine competition grounded in transparency, integrity, and civic engagement.

The Party extends its appreciation to the authorities who ensured the safety and proper conduct of the elections, and congratulated the winners across various towns and villages. It expresses hope that this milestone would serve as a launchpad for effective municipal governance and the development of towns and cities toward greater modernity and sustainable growth.

The Kataeb Party also reaffirms its commitment to setting an example in good local governance, viewing it as a crucial stepping stone toward the implementation of decentralization, a now-urgent need and a pressing national priority.

2. The Political Bureau welcomes the recent recommendations issued by the Higher Defense Council and their alignment with decisions adopted by the government, commending the steps taken to reinforce public security. It emphasizes, however, that this firm approach must be applied consistently across all Lebanese territory and enforced equally on all armed militias, without exception. Only then can the State ensure that weapons remain solely in the hands of the Lebanese Army and legitimate security forces, in line with the broader national vision.
