The Kataeb’s political bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Party President Samy Gemayel. After discussing the latest developments, the following statement was issued:
1. After Hezbollah armed itself and used its weapons domestically in various acts of intimidation and threats, violating Lebanon’s sovereignty and entangling the country in Iran’s regional agendas, it has now moved from controlling the surface to digging tunnels underground. This not only violates the State’s sovereignty but also encroaches on the private property of Lebanese citizens. This unacceptable infringement on the rights of the Lebanese State and its people is being perpetrated through the power of illegal arms and amid the State's acquiescence to Hezbollah's will.
The political bureau emphasizes that placing rockets and missiles in residential areas turns Lebanese citizens into human shields, dragging them into a war they do not want and were never consulted about before being forced into it.
2. The farce of Lebanon’s electricity crisis continues to unfold, with one scandal being exposed after another, revealing the deep-rooted negligence and decay not only within public administrations and institutions but also within the conscience of those entrusted with it.
Leaving the country in total darkness during one of its most challenging periods to take a summer vacation—or, more accurately, to shirk responsibility—is watertight proof that it is time to shut down these obsolete institutions. Instead, the private sector should be given a deserved chance to lead the nation out of the current administrative, political, and service-related decay. This approach would be far more merciful to the Lebanese people than begging for fuel from foreign countries, even friendly ones.
3. Despite the developments that Lebanon is witnessing, the Kataeb Party maintains that there is no place for despair. The Lebanese people have endured similar, if not harsher, circumstances in the past, and they managed to overcome all crises, occupations, and intimidation attempts thanks to their their resilience and faith in this nation.
