Kataeb Party Deems Hamas Statement a Direct Challenge to Lebanese State

The Kataeb Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Vice President of the Kataeb Party Michel Khoury in the absence of the party’s leader, who is currently abroad. The meeting addressed the latest developments in Gaza, particularly the escalation of Israel-Hamas war as well as the revelation of intentions to drag Lebanon into this ongoing conflict.

After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1-  The Kataeb Political Bureau unequivocally expresses its rejection of the continuous violation of Lebanon by armed militias that have surpassed the state- absent yet ever-present.

It stands in solidarity with the Lebanese who refuse to be dragged into war and condemns the calls to form their own faction under the name of "Vanguards of Al-Aqsa Flood".
This initiative is seen as acceptable attempt to reclaim “Fatah Land”, which imposed immense tragedies on the country, costing Lebanese lives and failing to deliver for the Palestinians.

2- The Kataeb Political Bureau considers Hamas statement as a direct challenge to the Lebanese state, holding those who remain silent responsible for the potential consequences of this absolute abdication of responsibility and shameful abandonment of any sense of sovereignty for a nation and its people facing the ugliest forms of encroachment upon its existence.

3- The Kataeb Political Bureau holds the government, in its the remnants of authority,  responsible for failing to fulfill the minimum duties required to confront the legislative doors wide open to Lebanon in the face of what is, perhaps, the most helpless situation it has ever faced.

It also warns against repeating past experiences of the state relinquishing the Lebanese people's right to live in a sovereign, free, and independent country.

It reiterates the necessity of making a clear and unequivocal political decision to deploy the Lebanese army and security forces along the entire border, ensuring they become the sole guarantors of peace.

4-The Kataeb Political Bureau calls on the international community, led by its envoys and ambassadors, to exert diligent efforts to prevent Lebanon's involvement in any confrontations, urging swift intervention and exertion of all necessary efforts to halt the encroachment on the country, its sovereignty, and the continuous attempts to drag it into the arenas and axes of conflict.

The Kataeb Political Bureau emphasizes the necessity of adhering to the implementation of international resolutions, among them being UNSC Resolution 1559, 1680, and above all UNSC Resolution 1701.
