Justice Minister Discusses Judicial Reforms, FATF Compliance with IMF Delegation

Minister of Justice, Adel Nassar, hosted a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday. The delegation was led by Ernesto Rego, head of the IMF mission to Lebanon.

The meeting focused on progress made within the Ministry of Justice since Nassar assumed office, highlighting key reform initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s judicial system. Among the significant achievements discussed were the draft legislation on judicial independence and recent judicial appointments, both seen as critical steps toward enhancing the rule of law.

The delegation and Minister Nassar also reviewed the recommendations issued in the latest report by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international body that monitors efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. Discussions centered on the necessary measures Lebanon must undertake to comply fully with FATF standards, a prerequisite for removing the country from the FATF’s grey list.

Minister Nassar emphasized the ministry’s commitment to advancing judicial reforms and implementing the required actions to secure Lebanon’s removal from the grey list, which has significant implications for the country’s financial and international standing.
