Joelle Bou Abboud: Hezbollah Is Still Following Its Obstructive Approach

Kataeb Political Bureau Member Joelle Bou Abboud highlighted that "the visit of French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian aims to support the Quintet Committee efforts and is closely tied to it, as he emphasized."

"The follow-up will continue with the Quintet Committee after the visit. It should be noted that Paris has consistently worked to break the current presidential deadlock, which saw its last election session nearly a year ago when the Shiite duo’s deputies withdrew and obstructed the presidential elections," Bou Abboud said in an interview with "Al-Hadath".

She noted that no country can sustain itself without a president, especially since Hezbollah launched a war without consulting any Lebanese citizens or even the Lebanese state, over which it has control.

"Therefore, it is crucial to elect a president to prevent further decline," she emphasized.

"We have no problem with consultations or discussions; these are mere formalities and not the core issue. The fundamental problem is whether Hezbollah is willing to stop its policy of imposing a president on all Lebanese and obstructing constitutional deadlines," she explained.

She continued, saying it was unfortunate that Hezbollah was still following its obstructive approach.

"Hence, we asked the French envoy: if consultations occur without reaching a consensus, will there be successive sessions? What guarantees that resistance deputies won't disrupt the quorum as they did previously?" Bou Abboud pointed out.

Bou Abboud noted that "Le Drian was convinced that the guarantees sought by the opposition are reasonable and must be considered, and these will be followed up with the Quintet."
