Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon have killed dozens of Hezbollah fighters, captured a militant, and intensified strikes across the region, the military said on Tuesday, as fighting showed no signs of easing.
In a statement posted on X, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said troops from the 36th Division had continued to dismantle what he described as “terrorist infrastructure” and uncover weapons in southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours.
According to the military, Israeli forces killed dozens of militants who were attempting to set up ambushes against troops. In one incident, soldiers identified an operative carrying a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher and preparing to fire, and killed him before he could launch the attack.
The army also said it had detained a Hezbollah operative who was conducting surveillance on Israeli troops. He was taken into Israel for further interrogation.
Israeli forces said they had located and destroyed weapons depots containing large quantities of military equipment, as well as command centers, tunnel shafts, and a launch site previously used to fire rockets into Israeli territory. Items recovered included military vests, helmets, and an RPG launcher ready for use.
Artillery units supporting the operations have fired more than 700 shells at Hezbollah targets in recent days, the military added.
The Israeli army renewed its warning to residents living south of the Zahrani River, urging them to evacuate their homes and move north of the river.
“Hezbollah’s terrorist activity is forcing the Israeli army to operate forcefully in this area, and it does not intend to harm you,” the statement said.
Separately, the military confirmed that four Israeli soldiers, including an officer from the Nahal Brigade, were killed in fighting in southern Lebanon, while three others were wounded. In a detailed account of the incident, the army said troops from the Nahal reconnaissance unit encountered a group of Hezbollah fighters in the western sector at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The soldiers engaged the militants at close range, hitting several of them. As troops attempted to evacuate the wounded, Hezbollah fighters fired an anti-tank missile at the unit, though it did not cause additional casualties. Israeli forces responded with tank fire and airstrikes targeting the militants in the area.
The military said one soldier was seriously wounded and a reservist moderately injured in the same clash.
On the ground, Israeli air and artillery strikes continued across southern Lebanon. Warplanes carried out a heavy strike on the town of Al-Qulaylah, south of Tyre.
Intermittent shelling hit Wadi Sarbin and the outskirts of Beit Leef, while the area around Qawzah came under bursts of gunfire.
Israeli artillery also targeted Mansouri, and airstrikes struck Majdal Zoun and Barashit.
At dawn, a strike hit a house in Kafra, while another attack shortly after midnight on Abba killed a young man identified as Shadi Hassan Maallem after his home was hit.
The town of Duweir was also struck, with an air raid destroying the home of a resident, Mohammad Salami, in the al-Rous neighborhood.
Additional strikes targeted the Samouqa area between Jibchit and Abba, as well as the al-Mashaa neighborhood in Deir al-Zahrani.
