The lead judicial investigator in the Beirut port explosion case, Judge Tarek Bitar, has officially concluded his investigations and transferred the entire case file to the Prosecutor General, Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar, for review, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.
The referral requires Judge Al-Hajjar to examine the case and provide his formal opinion, including any requests or recommendations regarding the defendants who have been questioned since early 2025 but have yet to face formal decisions.
The investigation involves a total of 70 defendants, encompassing political figures, officials, and other individuals linked to the 2020 port blast, which killed more than 200 people, injured thousands, and caused widespread destruction in Beirut.
Judge Bitar’s inquiry has spanned several years and involved extensive questioning of the suspects, who remain under scrutiny for their potential roles in the events leading to the catastrophic explosion. The next steps now rest with the Prosecutor General, who will determine whether formal indictments, additional investigations, or other legal actions are warranted.
