President Joseph Aoun chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review preparations for an international conference aimed at supporting the Lebanese Army and security forces, as diplomatic efforts intensify ahead of the gathering scheduled to take place in Paris next month.
The meeting brought together Saudi Foreign Minister Adviser Prince Yazid bin Farhan, French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa, Qatari Assistant Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, as well as the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, France, Qatar and Egypt.
Presidential spokeswoman Najat Charafeddine said the conference will take place in Paris on March 5. She noted that discussions centered on the political and logistical groundwork for the gathering, which is expected to rally international backing for Lebanon’s military and security institutions as the country grapples with mounting economic strain and persistent security pressures.
Participants agreed to intensify diplomatic contacts in the coming weeks to ensure the broadest possible international participation, reflecting what officials described as a shared commitment to strengthening the Lebanese Army’s capabilities and its role as a cornerstone of national stability.
