International Message: Implementing Resolution 1701 Prevents War

The escalation in the frequency of military operations along the southern border with Israel may turn the front into an open battlefield with all possibilities in connection with the developments of the Gaza war.

In light of this, following the visit of the Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the Army Commander General Joseph Aoun to the western sector of the southern border and the headquarters of the UNIFIL, communications have been initiated at the highest levels both locally and internationally, urging the Lebanese authorities to fulfill their commitments under Resolution 1701.

In this context, information from "Nidaa Al-Watan" revealed an international message sent to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and PM Mikati.

The message stated that "as long as Lebanon has declared its commitment to Resolution 1701, it requires the army and UNIFIL to control the southern borders and for Hezbollah and the Palestinians to withdraw."

The newspaper opined, "There is no other plan or solution other than this step, or else, the so-called new rules of engagement practiced by Hezbollah imply the possibility of going into war, given the scale of casualties on both sides of the border."

It added, "To eliminate Hezbollah's argument that connects the southern front with Israel's ground invasion of Gaza and to nullify Israel's pretext for waging war, Lebanon, through the army and the international force, will obtain American international guarantees that war will not occur. However, at present, these guarantees cannot be obtained, opening the door to the possibility that Israel wants war or that Hezbollah seeks it at the behest of Iran. Therefore, dropping the arguments of Israel and Hezbollah will be achieved through the army and UNIFIL controlling the borders, creating an international guarantee for peace in Lebanon. The international community will then bear the responsibility to keep Lebanon out of war."

It concluded, "France warned in a message that there is an inevitable strike that Israel will direct at Lebanon, and there is no way to avoid it except by tasking the army and the international forces with controlling the southern borders, in accordance with Resolution 1701. However, the Lebanese authorities have not yet responded, which has raised the displeasure of the French presidency."

France's Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna, visited Beirut on October 16 of this year, delivering a message to officials that stated, "Do everything in your power to prevent Lebanon from going into the war between Israel and 'Hamas.' It is your responsibility."
