Hankach: The Opposition Does Not Take Instructions from Anyone

Kataeb Lawmaker Elias Hankach pointed out that the meeting with the US envoy Amos Hochstein was necessary to emphasize the significant role of the opposition that rejects war and the equation of "arenas unity".

"We discussed several fundamental issues with Hochstein, most notably the implementation of UNSC Resolution 1701, the cessation of war, and support of the army. We also affirmed the importance of separating Lebanese issues from any negotiations related to the ongoing war," Hankach said in an interview with Al-Jadeed.

"The basis of our discussion with Hochstein was how to protect Lebanon and the Lebanese from the consequences of this war because our country cannot bear the burden of more displaced people, not to mention the losses," he noted.

Hankach also considered that "there are no guarantees today to stop the war, but there are efforts and endeavors to stop it."

He believed that "the ease of electing a president could be achieved through the application of the constitution, not the obstruction that the other team has done over 13 sessions," calling for "open sessions until the election of a president."

"Today, we are in dire need of a president as he is the supreme commander of the armed forces. The president is the one who is capable of restoring the decision of peace and war and protecting the country under the umbrella of legitimacy," Hankach indicated.

The Kataeb Lawmaker affirmed that "the opposition is clear and steadfast in its rejection of any exchange, as security and peace are not linked to politics and entitlement, thus the issue of presidential elections is a constitutional matter."

"The opposition does not take instructions or guidance from anyone, but rather takes its positions based on its constants, unlike those who have become accustomed to taking instructions from abroad," Hankach asserted.
