Grillo Prepares for Le Drian's Return

French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo prepares to visit the heads of parliamentary blocs in anticipation of the return of the French Presidential Envoy to Beirut.

The aim is to facilitate Lebanese dialogue and potentially pave the way for breaking the deadlock in electing a President.

This effort seeks to activate the French initiative but with a revised political approach.

According to sources, Ambassador Grillo aims to assess the positions through her meetings with the heads of parliamentary blocs in order to prepare an agenda that will serve as a framework for the dialogue to be conducted by Le Drian.

It remains to be seen whether this dialogue will take place before or after the election of a President.

Grillo believes that the parliamentary blocs are divided between a team led by the opposition, which prioritizes electing the president before engaging in dialogue, as stipulated by the Lebanese constitution which states that the election sessions must continue until the president is elected.

On the other hand, there is a team led by the Moumanaa that rejects imposing conditions on the dialogue, which revolves around the necessity of electing the President. This implies that it is not possible to abandon their support for Frangieh as a condition for starting the dialogue.

In a related context, it was revealed that Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati consulted with a number of deputies regarding the appointment of Jihad Azour as Central Bank Governor.

However, they avoided discussing his proposal, as Azour's nomination is still ongoing as long as his supporters have not withdrawn their support.

It is also worth noting that all rumors regarding Azour's withdrawal from the presidential race are unfounded until further notice.
