Gemayel: We Made the Decision to Confront; We Do Not Want a Pro-March 8 President Nor a Disgraceful One

Kataeb lawmaker Nadim Gemayel on Wednesday stressed thatthe homeland was left under the backfill as Bachir on September 14, 1982, saying that they proved that they succeeded in assassinating the body, the homeland, and the State.

“With their plans and agreements, assassinations, the Syrian occupation, and finally the Iranian occupation, they have been exerting every effort since 1982 to destroy Lebanon. They were able to destroy the State in which we dreamed and replace Bachir's project with a failing project through control of Iran’s party and its guardian over the State,” Gemayel said on Bachir Gemayel’s 40th Martyrdom Commemoration.

“How long will we be afraid of confrontation? How long will we be ashamed of our belonging and patriotism, and how long will we remain confused so as not to "upset" anyone?" he asked.

“Three principles come to mind when I think of how the Bachir's era dealt with national life. The first is sovereignty, or the State's right to veto any foreign country with ambitions in Lebanon,” he said.

“The second principle is national unity and circumvention of the national case. The 21 days broke down all fault lines and established the principle of Lebanon first in face of all occupations,” he added.

“The third principle is about restoring the prestige of the state. The employee during Bachir’s era used to go to his job early and adhere to his workplace's principles because Bachir believed in the establishment of the State and this provoked every citizen to respect the latter,” Gemayel affirmed.

“Today we made the decision to confront; we do not want a pro-March 8 president nor a disgraceful one, and if they believe that doing so will lead to Doha 2, they are mistaken,” he emphasized.

“Normalization with a weapon independent of the state is not permitted; it is either a Lebanese president or there is no president; this is our collective responsibility as well as the responsibility of the deputies with us in the front row,” he concluded.
