France Affirms UN Resolution 1701 as Key to Lebanon Peace, Dismisses Amendments

France reiterated its calls for a ceasefire in Lebanon as French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine confirmed on Friday that France has engaged with all regional stakeholders, including Saudi Arabia, during the recent Lebanon support conference in Paris.

Lemoine highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role as a significant regional actor that must be included in diplomatic discussions as violence threatens Lebanon’s stability.

Lemoine told Al Arabiya that the French-American ceasefire proposal remains viable and could be adapted if necessary. He stressed that UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which underpins Lebanon’s peace and security, remains “the cornerstone” of any diplomatic solution, dismissing any possibility of introducing modifications into it.
