Fragile Ceasefire Agreement Fails to Halt Strikes in South and Bekaa

The fragile Lebanese-Israeli ceasefire agreement has so far failed to halt fighting on the ground, as southern Lebanon and the western Bekaa witnessed intensified air and drone strikes alongside continued military activity.

Lebanon's National News Agency reported that the death toll from strikes on the town of Sohmour rose to three civilians, with several others wounded. The municipality issued an urgent appeal to residents, warning them not to return to the area under any circumstances due to what it described as “serious dangers,” stressing that “the enemy spares no one, including civilians, men and women alike.”

Israeli airstrikes also hit the town of Qalia in western Bekaa, while three raids targeted the entrance of Saghmour. A drone strike also hit the town’s entrance and the area of Tel Majdal Belhiss, north of Saghmour. Another drone struck the vicinity of the Qaraoun Dam.

In southern Lebanon, three drone strikes targeted the Nabatiyeh area. Earlier in the day, a drone hit a “Rapid” vehicle on the Zefta–Kfarwa road, killing one person, while another strike on a motorcycle in Maaroub killed one person and wounded another. A separate strike hit a car near the Sultan restaurant in Doueir.

The strikes extended across multiple southern localities, including Maarka, Adshit, Kfarjoz, Hadatha, Tebnine, Zawtar East and West, the Al-Maysa neighbourhood in Zbdein, Srifa, Haris, Kfara, Braashit, Choukin, Yohmor al-Shaqif, Deir al-Zahrani, Mansouri, the Bsatit area in Tyre district, Shhour, and the vicinity of the Farah amusement park on the Zawtar–Nabatieh road.

Earlier, a drone struck a car on the Kfar Reman–Haboush road near the ambulance junction, while another targeted the roundabout in Kfar Tebnit. Israeli warplanes also carried out an airstrike on Ghazieh, south of Sidon, reportedly hitting a hangar sheltering displaced civilians, according to preliminary reports.

Later, a drone strike targeted a vehicle at the Nmeiriyeh junction carrying a family from Marjayoun — a father, mother and their daughter. All three were wounded and transported to hospitals in Nabatieh by ambulance teams from the Health Authority’s Zefta unit. The injured were identified as Antoine Bou Absi, his wife Therese Bou Absi, and their daughter Najat Bou Absi.

The Israeli army also resumed demolition operations in the towns of Yohmor and Zawtar East, while overnight artillery fire targeted Mansouri, Majdel Zoun, Deir Kifa, Kfardounine, and the public park near the Tyre tourist rest area. Low-altitude drone activity was also reported over Tyre and surrounding areas.

In Nabatiyeh, the National News Agency said Israeli warplanes struck the vicinity of Sheikh Ragheb Harb Hospital overnight.

Meanwhile, Israeli army spokesperson Ella Wawiya said on X that forces from the Golani Brigade combat team, under the command of the 36th Division, had “achieved operational control over the Shaqif Heights (Beaufort)” in recent days.

She said troops encountered armed militants during the assault near Beaufort Castle, adding that they were engaged at close range and struck by tank fire, followed by drone attacks.

Separately, the Israeli military said an explosive-laden first-person view (FPV) drone launched by Hezbollah struck near IDF Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo while he was visiting southern Lebanon several weeks ago. The army said there were no casualties and no damage, though reports indicated a vehicle in his convoy was hit shortly after he exited his car. The IDF said it has since revised protocols for senior officers’ visits to southern Lebanon.
