Explosions and Shelling Reported in South Lebanon Amid Fragile Ceasefire

A massive explosion shook the southern Lebanese town of Khiyam at dawn on Sunday, with preliminary reports suggesting Israeli forces may have demolished several homes and buildings in the area, according to Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA).

The Israeli army reportedly fired three shells near Khiyam, targeting Naba’a Ebel with one shell, the Jlahiyeh area with another, and a third in the Marjayoun plain. Intense gunfire was also heard in the town, the NNA reported.

Explosions were also noted on the outskirts of the villages of Yaroun and Maroun al-Ras.

Separately, Voice of Lebanon radio reported that an Israeli tank fired a shell toward the town of Ebel al-Saqi.

The escalating situation in southern Lebanon comes as concerns grow over the fragility of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, brokered to halt weeks of conflict. France has reportedly warned Israel against undermining the truce.

Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth cited French officials as saying that France has cautioned Israel that 52 ceasefire violations were recorded over the past day alone, bypassing the agreed monitoring mechanism.

The report also noted that Israeli drones have resumed low-altitude flights over Beirut, sparking further tensions.
