Beirut Port Explosion’s File Is Heading Towards Internationalization

It appears that the investigation into the Beirut port explosion will take a different path due to internal obstacles.

A prominent Lebanese official source has revealed that there is “a serious intention to establish an international fact-finding committee that will take control of this file."

Major embassies have responded to this request, given the complications faced by the investigative judge, Tarek Bitar, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Anbaa".

The source, that refused to be named, said "there is a serious desire to establish this committee within the mechanisms of international human rights agreements, and the investigative committee is supposed to have full authority so that no political immunities will hinder its mission."

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Public Prosecution is expected to receive messages from the judiciary in France, Germany, and Luxembourg to determine dates of European judges arrival who will be investigating the file of the Banque du Liban Governor, Riad Salameh.

A knowledgeable judicial source said that "the Lebanese judiciary's accusation against Salameh has imposed a new reality that must be dealt with."
