Audi: We Hope That the Election Takes Place, Presidential Candidate Does Not Run for Office or Title

Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Beirut and its suburbs Archbishop Elias Audi on Sunday said that what had happened in our nation was the result of a lack of faith and love and the tyranny of self-interest and selfishness, which erase humanity from human hearts and nullify compassion and empathy.

“As a result, self-interest triumphs over the other’s love, which leads to exploitation and monopoly,” Audi said during his weekly sermon.

“We hope that everyone unites to ensure justice for all parties in the port explosion case by revealing the truth. This occurs when the lead investigator is given the freedom to carry out his duties without hindrance or interference. To ensure that everyone with a right receives it, all those who obstruct justice must bypass their interests, lift their immunities and facilitate the work of the judiciary,” he stressed.

“Is it not time to stop all those who make the underprivileged sink to death? Is it really so hard to identify them and hold them responsible? We lack authorities of the same caliber, who treat everyone in accordance with the law, without ambiguity or discrimination," he continued.

"We hope that the election takes place and the presidential candidate does not run for office or a title," Audi said referring to presidential elections.

He pointed out that the new president should have a vision, a credible action plan, and a desire to preserve this country, rather than just take office and fulfill his own aspirations and thirst for wealth and power.

“We hope that legislators will live up to the trust of the people who elected them and not exercise their authority indiscriminately or take it for granted,” he concluded.
