Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi condemned the Lebanese Parliament, its president, and members for allegedly hindering the appointment of a president, which he believes violates the Constitution and destabilizes state institutions.
Al-Rahi also raised concerns about the lack of Christian representation in Lebanon's governance.
In his Easter address, al-Rahi cautioned against exploiting the challenges faced by southern Lebanon for political purposes and urged Lebanese unity to shape the nation's future.
He called for unity to end conflicts, uphold international resolutions, and protect southern Lebanon from further turmoil, praising the resilience of its residents.
Addressing socio-economic issues, al-Rahi deplored the decline in social services, particularly healthcare, and criticized the government's inaction and mistreatment of workers.
He expressed worry about skilled educators leaving Lebanon due to economic difficulties, which affects the quality of education.
Al-Rahi urged prompt legislative measures to tackle these issues before irreversible harm occurs.
Lastly, he advocated for national sovereignty and criticized foreign influences for promoting integration while imposing barriers, reiterating Lebanon's right to neutrality based on its identity and historical experience.
