On March 2, Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel – though the decision for it to do so was almost certainly made by Iran – carrying Lebanon into a new war with Israeli forces. On the same day, Lebanon's government declared Hezbollah's military and security activities illegal. Shortly thereafter, army commander General Rodolphe Haykal made it clear to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam that the military did not have the means to implement the government's decision. Now, the Lebanese army finds itself in an uncomfortable position.

Qatar’s Al Jazeera television network announced that its office in Beirut has been evacuated following multiple warnings had been made to the building housing it.
Additionally, the Norwegian embassy in Beirut faced a similar security scare. According to the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, the embassy was evacuated after receiving a bomb threat.
Later, Reuters cited a Lebanese security source and a diplomatic source as saying that the threats made to buildings housing Al-Jazeera and the Norwegian embassy were determined to be fake.
