Walid Fares Appointed Secretary-General of Kataeb Party

Ahead of Lebanon’s parliamentary elections, the Kataeb Party has appointed Serge Dagher as Deputy to the Party President for Political and Electoral Affairs, while naming Walid Fares as the party’s new Secretary-General, succeeding Dagher.

Fares, 68, a native of Sidon, is married with two children. He holds degrees in Law and History and is a practicing appellate lawyer registered with the Beirut Bar Association.

A longtime party veteran, Fares joined the Kataeb Party in 1974 after three years as an activist in its student wing. He fought with the party’s regular forces during the Two-Year War and the Hundred Days War in 1978. From 1981 to 1985, he headed the Foreign Affairs Office of the Lebanese Forces under the leadership of President Bashir Gemayel.

Over the decades, Fares rose through the party ranks, serving as head of the Contemporary Section in Beiteddine, Secretary of the Chouf District, and member of the Political Bureau since 2005. He was appointed Deputy Secretary-General in 2007 and assumed the role of Secretary-General in 2010.

In 2012, Fares led the party’s Expatriate Body up until 2022 when he was appointed Third Deputy to the Party President for Expatriate Affairs.
