Video - Collision of Two High-Speed Trains in Spain Results in Fatalities and Injuries

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his "shock at the serious train accident" that occurred this morning near the city of Toledo, in central Spain, resulting in at least 64 deaths, according to regional authorities.

Sánchez stated that "emergency teams are working on-site to assist those affected," expressing his "solidarity and support" for all the victims and their families.

The mayor of Orda, Manuel Galan, told Spanish state television (TVE): "Two trains collided, and there are injured people."

A spokesperson for Spanish emergency services told AFP that the trains collided just before 9 AM local time.

The spokesperson said that "all resources are currently being mobilized," including "several firefighting teams, three helicopters, and two mobile intensive care units."

The railway infrastructure management company (Adif) confirmed the collision, warning in a social media post about the suspension of train services on the high-speed rail line connecting Madrid to southern Spain.

This incident comes less than a year after a train collision in the town of Adamuz, southern Spain, which resulted in 46 fatalities.
