The United States on Thursday congratulated the Lebanese people on the successful vote of confidence granted to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Lebanon’s economic reforms and security efforts.

“We commend Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and wish his government success under President Joseph Aoun’s leadership,” said U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce in a statement.

Bruce highlighted the significance of the vote, saying that for too long, the Lebanese people had been deprived of a functioning government capable of uniting the country and restoring state institutions.

The U.S. pledged to work alongside Lebanon’s new administration as it undertakes critical economic reforms.

“America is partnering with Lebanon’s new government as it enacts urgently needed economic reforms,” Bruce stated.

She also reaffirmed Washington’s continued support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, particularly in implementing the cessation of hostilities in the country’s volatile southern region.

“We will continue our support for the Lebanese Armed Forces as it implements the cessation of hostilities,” she said.
