UNIFIL Says Patrol Hit by Israeli Army Gunfire in Aytaroun

UNIFIL's spokesperson Andrea Tenenti  announced that around twelve noon today, Israeli army opened fire at a UNIFIL patrol in the vicinity of Aytaroun, in southern Lebanon.

“No peacekeepers were injured, but the vehicle was damaged. This incident occurred during a period of relative calm along the Blue Line,” he affirmed.

“Just yesterday, UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander LTG Lazaro urged those exchanging fire along the Blue Line to halt this cycle of violence, strongly reminding everyone that any further escalation could have devastating consequences,” he went on saying.

“This attack on peacekeepers, dedicated to reducing tensions & restoring stability in south Lebanon, is deeply troubling,” Tenenti said.

“We condemn this act and underscore the parties' responsibility to safeguard peacekeepers, preventing unnecessary risks to those striving to establish stability,” he emphasized.

Tenenti stressed the need for parties to commit to protecting peacekeepers and avoiding endangering the men and women working to restore stability.
