The Prickly Issue of Disarming Palestinian Factions in Lebanon
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas recently reached an agreement to regulate the presence of armed Palestinian factions in Lebanon as the country manages Hezbollah’s weapons caches in the south in accordance with the November 27, 2024, ceasefire arrangement with Israel. The Lebanese-Palestinian accord ostensibly ended the factions’ independent armed presence inside Lebanon’s Palestinian refugee camps, which are outside of the control of the Lebanese state. A Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee subsequently met with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and decided on a timetable for implementing the disarmament plan, which will begin in mid-June in Beirut-area camps and expand gradually to others in the south and north of the country.

Tenenti: Targeting of Journalists and Civilians Constitutes a Violation of International Law
UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti commented on killing of two Lebanese journalists yesterday in an Israeli raid in the south, considering that "the deliberate targeting of journalists and civilians constitutes a violation of international law, and may rise to the level of war crimes."
"UNIFIL was shocked and saddened upon receiving news of the targeting of a group of journalists, near Tayr Harfa in southern Lebanon", Tenenti said.
"We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the victims," he added.
"UNIFIL continues to urge all parties to respect the safety of journalists and civilians and avoid striking areas where they may be harmed or killed," Tenenti affirmed.
