There is a mini crisis at Real Madrid right now and, besides the defensive problems, there is an issue in attack as Karim Benzema is being left to do too much. He has netted 10 goals already this season from 10 matches, while he scored the team's goals in the back-to-back 2-1 losses, but the Frenchman hasn't had much support over the past week.
It really has been an excellent start to the campaign from the No.9. As well as his nine goals in LaLiga Santander over the first eight matchdays, he has also provided seven assists. That means he has been directlyly involved in 16 of his side's 22 goals so far.
Vinicius started the season as Benzema's key partner in attack and just two weeks ago they scored and assisted each other for the 2-1 comeback victory at Valencia. The Brazilian has five goals, two assists and has also won two penalties from which Benzema has scored.
The youngster may have had a quieter week against Villarreal, Sheriff Tiraspol and Espanyol, but there is confidence that he'll soon be contributing once again. With the others in Real Madrid's attack, that's not necessarily the case.
Eden Hazard is being used off the bench and isn't making the kind of impact he was bought for, Luka Jovic still can't complete his primary task of scoring goals and Rodrygo is no longer as impactful a super sub as he used to be. Then there's Marco Asensio, who scored a hat-trick as a midfielder but who hasn't had other chances, and Mariano, who isn't being used by Carlo Ancelotti.
That leaves Benzema with a lot to do and he is continuing to produce. If Real Madrid are to have a successful season, though, the No.9 will need more help from his supporting cast.
