Sources Fear Israeli Arms Smuggling Allegations Could Precede Military Action

Lebanese government and security sources warned on Wednesday that recent Israeli media reports alleging Hezbollah weapons smuggling into Lebanon may be part of a coordinated campaign to prepare international opinion for potential military action.

A senior Lebanese government official told Erem News that Hezbollah is no longer able to reinforce its capabilities through smuggling as it once did, crediting the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) for their ongoing operations, particularly south of the Litani River.

“The LAF continues to carry out disarmament efforts in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces as part of Lebanon’s obligations to the international community,” the official said.

The source said arms smuggling to Hezbollah has fallen by at least 60%, with Lebanese security agencies taking “all measures necessary to prevent any new attempts.” Coordination with Syrian authorities has reportedly closed several routes previously used to transport weapons into Lebanon, and Lebanese forces are implementing a comprehensive strategy to block any further smuggling.

“The recent surge in Israeli media reports appears to be part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s preparations for potential conflict,” the official added, noting that coverage in the past four days is designed to influence international opinion ahead of any confrontation.

Israeli broadcasters have reported that while some smuggling attempts were intercepted, other shipments reached Hezbollah storage sites in Lebanon from Syria.

A senior Lebanese security official confirmed to Erem News that smuggling through Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport, the Port of Beirut, and maritime routes has been effectively stopped following strict measures by Lebanese authorities. The official added that Washington is closely monitoring these efforts, ensuring that any violations would be quickly detected.
