Higher Council Calls for Consolidating Security Measures In Parallel with Confidence Session Vote

“The security and judicial agencies were requested to cooperate to take the necessary measures against lawbreakers, in accordance with the relevant laws,” Council’s Secretary-General Mahmoud al-Asmar said.

The meeting, held at the Baabda Palace, was chaired by President Michel Aoun who stressed on the importance of consolidating the security situation in the country to safeguard civil peace, while also making sure the “prestige of the state and its institutions” is not compromised.

It was attended by President Michel Aoun, Prime Minister Hassan Diab, and the ministers of defense, foreign affairs, interior, justice, finance and economy, in addition to top officials in the Lebanese Army and security forces.

The parliament is set to convene on Tuesday and Wednesday to review the new Cabinet’s Policy Statement and to grant it a confidence vote.
