Kataeb Lawmaker Selim Sayegh voiced his regret over parliament's loss of its ability to exercise its powers because the parliamentary blocs linked their options to external suggestions.
“An international settlement to elect a president of the republic will not be concluded. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri must open the Parliament instead of closing the electoral sessions. The presidential elections sessions should no longer be suspended as they have become a undemocratic process,” Sayegh said in an interview with Tele Liban.
The Kataeb Lawmaker called for dialogue to elect a president, saying that Berri hopes for a president who will comfort him and Hezbollah, but Lebanon is not a priority.
He also stressed that the fate of Lebanon was in danger and Hezbollah had no right to waste time while it is primarily responsible for the disturbance of the traditional political system.
“What is happening is normalization with the presidential vacuum and thinking about managing it. Change must be achieved,” he noted.
Sayegh pointed out that the Kataeb Party was against the regulation of the presidential vacuum.
He also explained the reason behind the rejection of the Kataeb Party of Franjieh’s candidacy for presidency, saying: “The most scandalous model that leads to an initial rejection of Franjieh becoming a president is the obstruction of justice in the Beirut port explosion case. He protected a minister who did not appear before the court.”
He asked in a separate context:" Who was directly accused of the clashes that took place in Tayyouneh?"
"All accusations were falsely directed at the Lebanese Forces Leader Dr. Samir Geagea in a bid to float Free Patriotic Movement Gebran Bassil so that the model of Aoun-Geagea duo comforts Hezbollah and protects the ruling system from any political or popular breakthrough. Proof is what happened in May parliamentary elections when Bassil forged an alliance with the Shiite duo in all the regions."
When asked about the relationship between the Kataeb Party and the Lebanese Forces, he said: "The relationship has become normal as it should be, but it can and should improve more, and efforts will be exerted in this field."
Regarding the General Conference of the Kataeb Party that will be held next month: "We, as the Kataeb Party, have principles. We are working on a plan for the future based on a strategy, a plan and missions."
"Is there a necessity to live together in Lebanon?" Sayegh said adressing all the Lebanese.
"We know which Lebanon we want but do others know?" he asked.
"We, as the Kataeb Party, have to say what we want and how we see things as the situation that we will reach will be the most dangerous in Lebanon's entire history. We should find answers to all these questions in the General Conference," he concluded.
