Kataeb Lawmaker Selim Sayegh noted that Lebanon should take advantage from the development in Arab relations, but the problem lies in the relationship between internal factions.
"We are witnessing a festival of lies, and partnership is not as it should be. Relying on foreign support is what is happening. Hezbollah is unable to channel the surplus of power and influence in the internal political equation, and recent Iranian signals through meetings with officials aim at restoring rationality in approaching matters, because Lebanon cannot rise as long as there are internal parties stronger than the state," Sayegh said in an interview with Tele Liban.
"The next phase should involve stepping out of existing equations and full engagement with the state, disarmament of Hezbollah, dismantling of militias, and the exclusivity of weapons," he emphasized.
"Hezbollah must deal with the new reality, and in Lebanon, we need to find a president who can perform this task, not just implement economic reforms," he added.
"The Christian alliance today says they want a consensual president, but Frangieh's qualities do not fit. Varios Sunni leaders say Frangieh is not suitable. Jumblatt's position is clear as he does not want a candidate controlled by Syria and Hezbollah ruling Lebanon. Therefore, Frangieh cannot claim to be a consensus candidate," he stressed.
"We have reached a negative agreement with Gebran Bassil due to his political considerations. There is a convergence in rejecting Frangieh's presidency, but there is no serious agreement yet because Bassil has not made up his mind,"he concluded.
