In remembrance of Minister Mohammad Chatah, Kataeb MP Dr. Selim Sayegh wrote on the "X" platform: " "When we concluded the Common Ground Meeting in downtown Beirut, Mohammad Chatah and I evaluated the outcomes and felt the significance of the achievement."
"During the meeting, which brought together representatives of Lebanon’s major political forces, the foundations for Lebanon's neutrality in the region’s conflicts were laid. Hezbollah’s representative on the committee, who later became an MP, Ibrahim Mousawi, expressed his agreement with a set of principles concerning Lebanon’s foreign policy. Ali Hamdan relayed the session's results to his superior, House Speaker Nabih Berri, who informed President Michel Sleiman of this important breakthrough, urging its formalization at the Baabda meeting," he said.
"Days later, the Baabda Declaration was issued, enshrining Lebanon’s neutrality. However, Iran decided otherwise. Hezbollah intervened in Qusayr, effectively undermining the declaration. Within this context, Mohammad Chatah—a moderate Sunni, a son of Tripoli, an advisor to Saad Hariri, and a policymaker with a sound mind and unshakable patriotism—was assassinated. Ibrahim Mousawi called me, genuinely moved and unable to comprehend what had happened. When will the righteous reclaim their national decision and say, ‘Enough’? Today, Mohammad, you are the true victor, and they are the defeated," Sayegh added.
