On the anniversary of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s assassination, Kataeb MP Salim Sayegh paid tribute to the late leader, emphasizing his enduring legacy and the sacrifices made for Lebanon’s sovereignty.
In a post on X, Sayegh reflected on Hariri’s memory and the broader struggle for Lebanon’s Second Independence, recalling other key figures who lost their lives in the fight for national sovereignty.
"Every day, we hold the memory of Rafik Hariri in our hearts, just as we do the memory of the martyrs of Lebanon's Second Independence—Samir [Kassir], Gebran [Tueini], Pierre [Gemayel], Antoine [Ghanem], and Mohammad [Chatah]! For us, remembrance is a way of life, not a fleeting moment, an exploitation opportunity, or a commodity for bargaining!" he wrote.
Sayegh underscored that martyrdom is not merely a loss but a transformation, turning political movements into unwavering acts of faith in Lebanon’s sovereignty, dignity, and democratic values.
"Martyrdom transforms a political journey into an act of faith in Lebanon’s finality, the sanctity of dignity, the primacy of freedom, the preference for justice, the importance of peace, and the legitimacy of the state," he stated.
He further urged a return to Lebanon’s foundational principles, stressing that the remembrance of Hariri and other assassinated leaders should serve as a moral compass for the nation.
"Today, this remembrance takes us back to our roots and authenticity—perhaps to purify those who have strayed, rebuke those who have disrespected it, and bring solace to the oppressed and marginalized who remain waiting on the margins of the nation."
Sayegh concluded his message with a powerful affirmation of Hariri’s sacrifice: "Rafik Hariri died so that Lebanon may prevail!"
