A U.S. intelligence source told Al Arabiya and Al Hadath on Wednesday that Washington has raised concerns about certain personnel within Lebanon’s General Security Directorate, amid suspicions that some may have provided assistance to Hezbollah at Beirut’s airport and port.

The source said the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump had detected movements by members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to and from Lebanon, amid information that Lebanese identities and official documents — including those belonging to deceased people — had allegedly been used to obtain documents and register Iranian operatives.

The source also said there were suspicions that some General Security personnel had been involved in issuing Lebanese passports to Iranian operatives.

U.S. authorities are reviewing cases in which Iranians allegedly entered or left Lebanon through Beirut’s airport and land border crossings using Lebanese documents, according to the source.

The source said suspected gaps in procedures for registering deaths among people from Hezbollah’s social base may also have been exploited to facilitate the entry of Iranian operatives into Lebanon.

The allegations could add another layer to growing scrutiny of Lebanon’s security institutions as Beirut seeks to strengthen state authority and reduce Hezbollah’s armed and political autonomy.
