Sayegh Calls for Liberation and Peace on Anniversary of Bashir’s Assassination

MP Salim Sayegh marked the anniversary of the assassination of President-elect Bashir Gemayel, saying his martyrdom showed that peace in Lebanon cannot be achieved without first ending foreign domination.

“Bashir’s martyrdom taught me that there can be no peace without liberation: yesterday, from the Syrian occupation; today, from Iranian domination,” Sayegh wrote on X.

Sayegh also invoked the teachings of Jesus Christ, quoting the biblical passage: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

“We liberate in order to make peace, and we make peace so that Lebanon may remain free and sovereign,” he wrote.

He said achieving that goal would be a way to honor those who died for Lebanon.

“Only then can we honor the heroic martyrs and ensure Lebanon’s eternal survival,” Sayegh said.
