Report: Israel Gives Lebanon Six Weeks to Disarm Hezbollah North of Litani

Israel has reportedly issued a six-week ultimatum demanding the disarmament of Hezbollah forces operating north of Lebanon’s Litani River, warning it will carry out military strikes against sites it claims are linked to the group if the demand is not met, according to Kuwait’s Al-Anbaa newspaper.

The report suggests that failure to initiate the disarmament process within the set timeframe could trigger Israeli military action targeting multiple locations across Lebanon.

Lebanese political and security officials declined to comment on the report. However, they did not dismiss the seriousness of the threat and suggested the move is part of a broader attempt to undermine Lebanon’s internationally supported efforts to address the presence of unauthorized weapons across its territory.

“Israel seems determined to disrupt the Lebanese State’s efforts to address the issue of illegal arms on Lebanese soil,” one official source said.

The officials also pointed to recent measures by Lebanon’s Higher Defense Council against the Palestinian group Hamas as a sign of the State's commitment to reasserting control and preventing the country from being used as a launchpad for regional hostilities.

“The move reflects the seriousness of the Lebanese State’s decision not to allow Lebanon to be used as a platform for messages or actions that the country and its people cannot withstand,” the sources said.
