Qassem Says the Resistance Is Not Over, Vows to Act When Necessary

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the resistance path of the late Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah during a televised address at Nasrallah’s funeral in Beirut on Sunday.

"We will uphold trust and walk on this path. We will uphold your will," Qassem declared, adding, "You are still with us: your path and struggle live within us."

He stressed Hezbollah’s determination to continue its resistance against Israel, stating, "We open fire when we see that appropriate and opt for patience when we see that appropriate. The resistance will continue."

Qassem also underscored the importance of national unity and Lebanon’s armed forces, saying, "We believe in the army’s great role in defending Lebanon, and I tell the hotheads that there are no winners or losers inside Lebanon."

Turning to external influences, he warned against U.S. interference in Lebanon.

"Tyrant America should not be allowed to control Lebanon," he said, adding, "You will not gain through politics what you failed to gain in war."

Defending Hezbollah’s acceptance of a ceasefire with Israel, Qassem explained, "We agreed to the enemy’s request because Lebanon and the resistance had no interest in continuing a disproportionate fight without military or political progress."

He insisted the move reflected strength, not weakness.

"The resistance is not over; it remains present and ready."

Qassem also reaffirmed Hezbollah’s commitment to state-building, saying, "The state must undertake reconstruction and implement a rescue plan." He emphasized Hezbollah’s alliance with the Amal Movement, calling it "a bond forged with blood" and warning against attempts to divide them.

Concluding his address, Qassem paid tribute to Nasrallah as "a national, Arab, and Islamic figure who represents a beacon for the free people of the world," vowing to preserve his legacy through Hezbollah’s continued resistance and political role.
