President Aoun Marks Armenian Genocide Anniversary with Call for Justice and Human Dignity

President Joseph Aoun on Thursday marked the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with a solemn message affirming Lebanon’s unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and human dignity. He emphasized that the remembrance goes beyond acknowledging a painful chapter in history and serves as a call for global action against violence, extremism, and exclusion.

“This anniversary is not merely a recollection of a tragic historical event, but a renewed affirmation of the importance of justice and the defense of human dignity,” Aoun said in a statement. “It is a reminder to the world of the necessity to stand against all forms of violence, extremism, and marginalization.”

“Lebanon today renews its steadfast and supportive stance toward the Armenian people in their peaceful struggle to achieve justice,” he said.

The president also praised the contributions of the Armenian community in Lebanon, highlighting their role as a vital component of the country’s national identity.

“Throughout their long history in Lebanon, Lebanese citizens of Armenian origin have exemplified sincere national belonging and constructive engagement in all fields—political, economic, cultural, and artistic,” Aoun noted. “They have always been an integral part of Lebanon’s diverse and richly textured identity.”

Concluding his statement, President Aoun paid tribute to the victims of the genocide and all victims of injustice around the world.

“May God have mercy on the victims of the Armenian Genocide and all victims of injustice and aggression wherever they may be. May He protect Lebanon and its people from all harm,” he concluded.

The Armenian Genocide refers to the mass killings and forced deportations of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during and after World War I, beginning in 1915. Historians estimate that approximately 1.5 million Armenians perished during this period.
