President Aoun Condemns Attempts to Reignite Violence, Orders Probe Into Rocket Fire

President Joseph Aoun condemned what he described as "attempts to drag Lebanon once again into a cycle of violence" following recent developments along the country’s southern border.

Early on Saturday, five rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, prompting the Israeli military to respond with artillery fire.

In a statement, Aoun said the ongoing events in southern Lebanon since February 18 amounted to "a continued assault on Lebanon and a blow to the rescue plan that the Lebanese have unanimously agreed upon."

The president urged "all concerned parties in the South, particularly the monitoring committee established under the November 2024 agreement, and the army to closely monitor developments to prevent any repercussions and contain any breach or negligence that could threaten the nation in these critical times."

Aoun also instructed the Army Commander to "take the necessary field measures to ensure the safety of citizens and conduct an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident."
