Opposition Breaks Presidential Deadlock: A Series of Meetings with Parliamentary Blocs

In an effort to address the presidential crisis with a new approach that embraces proactive or concurrent consultations during open sessions for the election of the President of the Republic—without establishing new norms that might violate the constitution—a committee of Opposition MPs will meet today with various parliamentary blocs in the Parliament's library hall.

The meetings will start with the Democratic Gathering, National Moderation, Strong Lebanon, and independent and change MPs.

Meanwhile, Opposition MPs Elias Hankach, Ghassan Hasbani, Fouad Makhzoumi, and Michel Douaihy are meeting with Democratic Gathering MPs Hadi Aboul Hosn, Marwan Hamadeh, Wael Abou Faour, and Bilal Abdallah.

MP Wael Abou Faour affirmed that "the initiative is positive and requires more flexibility from all parties to reach a solution. However, we have not seen any new ideas that could lead to the election of a president, and it is not correct to say that the dialogue raises concerns."

MP Bilal Abdallah told Al Jadeed: "Everyone needs to take a step back to reach a compromise, and the novelty in the Opposition's initiative is its readiness to engage in consultations."

Following this, the opposition delegation met with the National Moderation bloc, attended by MPs Sajih Attieh, Ahmad Khair, Nehmat Frem, and Nabil Badr.

The opposition MPs also met with several MPs from the Strong Lebanon bloc, including George Atallah, Nada Boustani, and former MP Eddy Maalouf.
