Netanyahu Warns Lebanon Must Disarm Hezbollah or Face Consequences

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Lebanese government that it bears responsibility for enforcing the 2024 ceasefire agreement and disarming Hezbollah, cautioning that failure to do so could bring severe consequences for Lebanon.

“It is your responsibility to enforce the ceasefire agreement. It is your responsibility to disarm Hezbollah,” Netanyahu said in a video statement, warning that continued attacks by the Iran-backed group could lead to “disaster” for Lebanon.

“The time has come for you, too, to take your fate into your hands,” he added.

Netanyahu stressed that Israel would take whatever measures it deemed necessary to defend its population.

“Israel will do everything necessary to protect our towns and our citizens,” he said.

Regarding the broader regional confrontation, Netanyahu said Israel’s war against Iran would continue “without compromises.” He said Israel had “an organized plan with many surprises” for the next stage of the conflict aimed at destabilizing the Iranian leadership and paving the way for political change.

“We have an organized plan with many surprises for the next phase of the war,” Netanyahu said, adding that the objective was “to destabilize the regime, to enable change.”

Addressing members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), he issued a warning: “You are also in our sights. Whoever puts his weapon down, no harm will come to him. Whoever doesn’t do that, his blood is on his head.”

Turning to the Iranian public, Netanyahu said “the moment of truth is drawing near,” while insisting Israel’s aim was not to fragment the country.

“We are not trying to divide Iran,” he said. “We are trying to free Iran.”

However, he said the outcome ultimately rests with the Iranian people themselves. “It depends on you,” he said, predicting that such change could eventually bring peace between Israel and Iran.

Netanyahu also referred to a December meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, saying Trump had told him: “Bibi, we have to stop Iran at any cost from attaining a nuclear weapon.” The Israeli premier thanked Trump for what he described as his “historic leadership” and praised what he called a U.S.-Israel partnership that is “stronger than ever.”

He added that Israel “stands with” other countries targeted by Iranian attacks and claimed that “many nations” were reaching out to Israel seeking cooperation.

Netanyahu also criticized the United Nations and several Western governments, accusing them of remaining silent while Iranians were being killed.

“When the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was slaughtering Iranians, where was the UN? Where were many states in the West?” Netanyahu asked.

He accused Western leaders of “weakness and flaccidity” in what he described as their abandonment of the Iranian people.

“Many countries see today exactly who they can count on,” Netanyahu said. “Israel is a lighthouse of power and hope.”
