Nassar Voices Reservations Over Draft 2027 Budget Bill

Justice Minister Adel Nassar expressed reservations over the draft 2027 state budget during Thursday’s Cabinet session, which nevertheless approved the proposal despite his objections and opposition from ministers affiliated with the Lebanese Forces party.

During the session, Lebanese Forces ministers submitted a signed memorandum outlining the motives behind their opposition to the proposal.

The budget has drawn attention in part because of proposed tax increases, including a measure that would quadruple taxes on offshore and holding companies.

The Finance Ministry’s proposal puts total spending at about $6.87 billion, roughly 15% higher than the 2026 budget and nearly 40% above the 2025 budget.

The government has also agreed to include increases equivalent to six additional salaries for public-sector employees, to be paid in two installments during 2027.

The Cabinet’s approval means the draft will now move to Parliament, where lawmakers will review and vote on the proposed 2027 budget.
