Lebanon is seeking to strengthen regional coordination in the fight against terrorism, Justice Minister Adel Nassar said, highlighting the need for international judicial cooperation and an independent judiciary.
Speaking at a regional conference on international judicial collaboration against terrorism, Nassar described the meeting as “a practical plan to unify Arab efforts against terrorism,” noting the symbolic significance of President Joseph Aoun’s support.
“He has stood against terrorism in the field then, as he does today,” Nasar said.
He added that Lebanon, which has weathered multiple crises in recent years, is now returning to its “natural role thanks to the President, the government, and its members.”
Nassar acknowledged the growing challenges posed by evolving terrorist networks.
“We have witnessed numerous terrorist attacks, and as this scourge has evolved, cells have grown larger, making the fight more difficult without international coordination and an independent judiciary,” he said, noting that the Ministry of Justice has revived cases related to terrorist assassinations and vowed to confront terrorism “through public-spiritedness.”
The minister also underscored Lebanon’s role as a testing ground for combating organized crime and terrorism.
“Terrorism can be defeated through justice, culture, and education,” Nassar said. “If we are to look to the future, we must make our country a place of culture, justice, and respect, not a platform for clinging to power.”
