Kataeb MP Nadim Gemayel on Tuesday accused Hezbollah of defying the Lebanese State and international resolutions, calling on the government to take a clear stance on recent statements made by the group’s leader, Naim Qassem.
In a post on X, Gemayel said Hezbollah, through its leadership, remains “determined to rebel against the State, international resolutions, and the ceasefire agreement it had previously approved.”
He urged Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government to clarify its position on Qassem’s remarks regarding the so-called "army, people, and resistance" trilogy, which he described as outdated and destructive to Lebanon.
Gemayel also criticized statements by Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri, calling them “alarming” and inconsistent with the government’s direction.
When asked about Hezbollah’s disarmament in light of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701—which stipulates that the Lebanese state should have sole authority over weapons within its borders—Mitri recently stated that setting a timeline for forcibly disarming Hezbollah was not feasible for the government.
“Where does this newfound claim of having ‘no timeline’ come from? And how can postponing the implementation of the constitution, international resolutions, and the ceasefire be justified under the pretext of arming the army—rather than immediately controlling Hezbollah’s weapons, as explicitly stated in the agreement?” Gemayel asked.
