Minister: Lebanon's War-Induced Losses Equivalent to a Year’s Revenue

Lebanon's caretaker Minister of Economy, Amin Salam, highlighted the extensive damage inflicted on various sectors due to the ongoing war, stating that the direct losses incurred so far are equivalent to the revenue generated in 2023.

In an interview with MTV, Salam addressed the pressing issues facing the country, particularly in relation to food security and transportation routes.

"All sectors have been adversely affected by the war," Salam said, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

The minister also noted that the government has taken necessary precautions regarding food security in light of the current crisis.

However, one of the significant concerns raised by Salam is the safety of the land route connecting Lebanon and Syria following the recent Israeli airstrike that hit an underground tunnel used by Hezbollah near the Masnaa border crossing.

"The land route with Syria remains unsafe," he cautioned, highlighting the challenges faced in transporting goods and supplies through this critical passage.
