Mikati to FPM Lawmakers: If You Truly Did Not Want to Postpone Municipal Vote, Then Why Did You Attend Today's Session and Ensured the Quorum?

Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, vowed to hold timely municipal elections even if the parliament approved the technical extension of the municipal and mayoral councils' term.

"We pledge to conduct the polls within the determined deadlines and as soon as possible," Mikati said after the parliament session on Tuesday.

"The cabinet, which will convene this afternoon, has a possible solution under which the polls' dates already announced by the interior minister would be changed," he explained.

"Instead of holding the elections on May 7 and May 14, we can conduct them on May 21 and May 27," he proposed.

"If you truly did not want to postpone the municipal vote, then why did you attend today's session and secured the quorum?" Mikati asked the Free Patriotic Movement lawmakers.
