Marouni: Hezbollah's Control Undermines Lebanon's Sovereignty

Kataeb Leader Advisor Elie Marouni said that "Hezbollah has established a complete emirate for itself, disrupting the country, doing as it pleases, and obtaining what it desires."

"In its view, any candidate from the other side who is not its own is considered a traitor. Hezbollah sees itself as the ultimate authority at all levels, holding all decisions, and declaring its dominance. Therefore, it is neither strange nor surprising that Hezbollah buys and sells as it wishes," Marouni said in an interview with "An-Nahar" newspaper.

Who is selling and buying the country’s dignity, sovereignty, and independence for the sake of the Iranian agenda?" he asked.

"Hezbollah does not want a presidential candidate, or rather, it does not want to elect one. It is comfortable with this issue because it is the ruler, the decision-maker, and does everything in the country. It has turned the state into a mini-state; there is no longer a state, but a Hezbollah mini-state. To block all candidates, Hezbollah declared that it did not want a president who buys and sells or is an agent according to its classifications," he noted.

"Unfortunately, Hezbollah benefits from the current state of the fragmented opposition. The opposition has weakened and divided, no longer cohesive and united as it was during the March 14 period," he added.

"The institutions and facilities have collapsed, and we have nothing left in the country due to Hezbollah’s control over its resources and capabilities," Marouni emphasized.

"If the opposition were united and cohesive, things would be different, but unfortunately, this is what is happening today. The arena is left to Hezbollah to label us as traitors and to control decisions as it pleases," he concluded.
