Central Bank Acting Governor Wassim Mansouri met with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati two days ago.

During the meeting, Mansouri informed Mikati that he and the Central Council’s members refuse to release funds whether in Lebanese pounds or US dollars.

According to Al-Akhbar newspaper, Mikati tried to persuade Mansouri that he has the authority to make the decision he desires, citing various provisions in the Monetary and Credit Law.

However, Mansouri rejected Mikati's request and reiterated that there will be no dollar withdrawals from the reserves, regardless of the circumstances.
