Kataeb Party Says Hezbollah Is Trying to Scuttle the Beirut Blast Probe

Kataeb Party on Monday stressed that Hezbollah and its allies have turned their sights to Lebanon’s judiciary and army; saying that this armed militia is on a path to completing its hegemony in Lebanon.

“Hezbollah and its allies are the impetus for the assault on the rule of law. This armed militia and the ex-warlords that have devastated the country are offering the Lebanese two choices: to forget justice and accountability for the port explosion or to be ensured with stability,” read a statement issued by the Kataeb political bureau following its weekly meeting at the party’s headquarters in Saifi.

The political bureau pointed out that the Iranian-backed elements are trying to scuttle the Beirut blast probe by all possible means.

“We, as the Kataeb party, refuse categorically assaulting and provoking the Lebanese,” it added.

“We call on the Army Commander Joseph Aoun to rule with an iron of fist in this historical moment; nobody except the Lebanese army can do this task,” it stressed.

“After two years of the popular uprising, we affirm that we will not compromise until change and sovereignty are achieved,” it concluded.

Lebanon on Sunday marked the two-year anniversary of its popular uprising when demonstrators took to the streets against government corruption and austerity measures in the biggest protest movement the country has seen in years.
