Turkey's Karpowership said it stopped supplying Lebanon with electricity from its two power ships Friday as its contract expired.

“As of Oct. 1, our contract with EDL has come to an end and as such we will begin the process of shutting down the two powerships," the company said in a statement. "We are acutely aware of the country’s ongoing energy crisis. During our eight years operating in Lebanon, despite all the challenges we have done all we can to support the Lebanese people as the government addresses fundamental challenges the country faces.:

Karpowership has been operating its two powerships Fatmagül Sultan and Orhan Bey, moored off the Jiyyeh and Zouk power plants respectively since 2013, generating about 370 megawatts.
