Gemayel: Beirut Blast Has Proved Lebanese Authority's Lack of Responsibility

Former President Amine Gemayel on Wednesday stressed that the Beirut port explosion has proved the authority’s irresponsibility towards the Lebanese citizens, saying that people will not accept how things are being currently addressed.

“People will be united, and a collective leadership will emerge from the movement in case the quota system model was repeated in forming the government,” Gemayel told Sky News Arabia, pointing out that there are efforts being exerted so as to form commonalities in order to provide a minimum level of organization.

“The October 17 revolution didn’t give a way to express itself properly and I have great confidence in all the protesters who proved high capabilities and self-confidence in demanding for their rights,” he said.

Gemayel stressed that there is a difference between both the French and the U.S. approaches when it comes to the international role in Lebanon, saying that French President Emmanuel Macron focused on the matter of reshaping the State, thus he did not stress on the principles of sovereignty and change.

“Whereas the U.S. envoy was more devoted to an anticipation of Lebanon's role in the quest for a new Middle East as well as Hezbollah’s stance and its influence in Lebanon and the region.
